Raising Awareness, Promoting Hope: World Cancer Day 2026

World Cancer Day was observed on 4 February with great enthusiasm to raise awareness about cancer and to encourage prevention, early detection, and treatment. The theme for this year, “United by Unique,” highlighted the fact that every person’s experience with cancer is different and that cancer care should be people-centred rather than one-size-fits-all.

To mark this important day, our institution organized various awareness programmes to educate students and the public about cancer and to promote empathy and support for those affected.

A cancer awareness rally was conducted in the morning. Students participated actively by holding placards and banners with powerful messages about cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and healthy lifestyles. A poster competition was also organized to encourage creativity and awareness. Students expressed their ideas through colourful and informative posters based on the theme “United by Unique.” The competition helped students understand cancer issues in a creative and meaningful way.Winners of Poster Competition:First Position: Jashan veerKaur (GNM 2ND YEAR), Second Position: Mani (GNM 2ND YEAR), Third Position: Riya Yadav (B.SC.2ND YEAR) and Nikita Baroi (B.SC.4TH YEAR).

An essay competition was also conducted to improve students’ knowledge and writing skills. Participants wrote essays on cancer awareness, prevention, and the significance of the theme. Winners of Essay Competition:First Position: Jashanpreet Kaur (B.SC 2ND YEAR), Second Position: Komal Morya (ANM 1ST YEAR), Third Position: Prabdeep Kaur (GNM 2ND YEAR).

Programme Outcomes

  • Increased awareness about cancer, its causes, prevention, and early detection.
  • Improved understanding of the theme “United by Unique” and the need for personalized cancer care.
  • Encouraged healthy lifestyle practices among students and the community.
  • Developed creativity and communication skills through poster and essay competitions.
  • Promoted empathy, compassion, and social responsibility towards cancer patients and survivors.
  • Strengthened community participation and unity in the fight against cancer.
  • Emphasized the importance of personalized care.

Conclusion

The observance of World Cancer Day was a great success. The programmes conducted created awareness, encouraged social responsibility, and inspired students to contribute positively to society. The theme “United by Unique” reminded everyone that while cancer affects people differently, we are all united in supporting, understanding, and caring for one another.
