Skill, Precision and Care: Four-Day Clinical Competency Workshop Concludes at RMCH Bareilly

A four-day “Competency Based Hands-on Clinical Skills Training Workshop on the theme “Skill, Precision and Care: Strengthening Clinical Competence was successfully organized from 19th May 2026 to 22nd May 2026 at Auditorium, Rohilkhand Medical College and Hospital, Bareilly with the aim of strengthening practical competencies, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based nursing practices among nursing students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals. The workshop emphasized experiential learning through demonstrations & interactive discussions.

The sessions enabled active participation from various nursing institutions and healthcare settings with total 150 number of participants for all 4 days of workshop. Experts from different specialties facilitated the sessions and provided practical exposure to essential clinical procedures and patient care management.

Day 1 Training Report– 19/05/2026

The first day of the workshop commenced with Registration of Participants and Pre – test through OSCE based evaluation followed by the Inaugural ceremony. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Lata Agarwal, Vice Chancellor, Bareilly International University, Bareilly highlighted the growing need for skilled nursing professionals who are competent in emergency management, patient assessment, communication and specialized nursing procedures & professional development.

The academic sessions of the day focused on advanced clinical skills training combined with personality development and professional growth. The first session on “Advanced Life Support, Management of Defibrillator” was conducted by Mr. Jitendra Singh, Professor, Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Nursing, Moradabad. The session provided participants with detailed knowledge regarding emergency response measures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management and life-saving interventions. The facilitator demonstrated step-by-step Advanced Life Support procedures using simulation models, allowing participants to understand the sequence of emergency management effectively. This was followed by an intensive session on the Management of Defibrillator, where participants were introduced to the indications, precautions, handling techniques and safe operation of defibrillators during cardiac emergencies. Practical demonstrations and supervised hands-on training enhanced the participants’ confidence in managing emergency situations.

Another important session focused on “Colostomy Care” conducted by Dr. Pratibha M.B., Professor cum Principal Keshlata College of Nursing, Bareilly during which participants learned about stoma assessment, colostomy appliance management, infection prevention, skin care, patient counselling and post-procedure care. The session emphasized maintaining patient comfort, dignity and prevention of complications associated with stoma care.

The workshop further included a session on “Partograph” the session was taken by Dr. Priyanka. A. Masih, Professor cum Principal, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly which highlighted the importance of partograph interpretation in monitoring maternal and fetal wellbeing during labor. The facilitator explained the components of the partograph, documentation methods and interpretation of findings and identification of abnormal labor patterns. Participants actively engaged in case-based discussions related to labor monitoring.

An extensive afternoon session on “Adult and Paediatric Health Assessment” taken over by Mrs. L. Priyalata Devi, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly & Dr. Anitha P., Vice Principal, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly enabled participants to strengthen their assessment skills through systematic examination techniques. The facilitators demonstrated physical assessment procedures including general examination, vital signs assessment, neurological assessment, respiratory examination, cardiovascular assessment and pediatric growth and developmental evaluation. Participants practiced assessment techniques in skill stations under supervision.

A special session on “Personality Development” by Mrs. Princia Rolita D’Souza, Associate Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly was conducted to enhance professional behaviour, communication skills, confidence, leadership qualities, emotional intelligence, interpersonal relationships among nursing professionals & encouraged participants to develop self-confidence and professional competence essential for effective nursing practice.

The afternoon session also included training on “Assisting Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)” the session was delivered by Mr. Mukesh Singh, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly where participants were introduced to the indications, preparation, nursing responsibilities, patient safety measures and post-procedure care related to ECT. Demonstrations were provided regarding equipment preparation and assisting techniques during the procedure.

The final session of the day focused on “Nasogastric Tube Insertion and Feeding” by Mr. Asheesh Singh, PG Nursing Tutor, Keshlata College of Nursing, Bareilly. Participants learned about indications, contraindications, insertion techniques, verification methods, feeding procedures, complication prevention and patient care during nasogastric feeding. Hands-on demonstrations enabled participants to practice the procedure safely and accurately.

The teaching-learning methodologies adopted throughout the day included demonstrations, interactive discussions, case-based learning, question-answer sessions, and supervised practical training. Active participation from the attendees contributed to a dynamic learning environment.

Overall, the first day of the workshop was highly informative and skill-oriented. Participants gained practical exposure and improved competency in emergency care management, patient assessment, specialized nursing procedures, communication skills, and professional behaviour. The sessions significantly enhanced their confidence, critical thinking abilities and preparedness for delivering safe and effective patient care in various clinical settings.

At the end of the day, feedback from participants was collected through google form link shared through email followed by What’s app group.

Day -2 Training Report – 20/05/2026

The second day of the Competency Based Hands-on Clinical Skills Training Workshop began with a brief recapitulation of the previous day’s sessions. The facilitators reviewed the important concepts and practical skills covered on Day 1, including Advanced Life Support, Defibrillator Management, Colostomy Care, Health Assessment, Personality Development and Nasogastric Tube Insertion and Feeding. Participants actively interacted during the recap session and clarified their doubts related to various procedures.

The academic sessions of the day focused on strengthening practical competencies related to nursing procedures, maternal and child health care and critical care management. The first session on “Male Catheterization and Female Catheterization” was conducted by Mr. Akanksh Alexander, Assistant Professor, and Mrs. Anju Singh, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly. The facilitators provided detailed explanations regarding indications, contraindications, preparation of articles, aseptic precautions, catheter insertion techniques, patient safety measures and post-procedure care. Step-by-step demonstrations were performed. The session enhanced participants’ confidence and competency in performing catheterization procedures safely and effectively.

The workshop further included an important session on “Assisting Endotracheal Intubation” conducted by Mrs. Chandra Prabha Joshi, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly. The facilitator explained the indications, preparation, equipment required, nursing responsibilities, patient safety precautions, and post-intubation care related to endotracheal intubation. Step-by-step demonstrations were provided to help participants understand airway management and emergency intervention procedures effectively.

This was followed by a hands-on session on “Tracheostomy Care” conducted by Mrs. Anupriya S. Lal, Assistant Professor, Keshlata College of Nursing, Bareilly. Participants learned tracheostomy suctioning techniques, airway maintenance, infection prevention, stoma care, communication with tracheostomy patients and monitoring of complications. Demonstration enhanced participant’s confidence in managing tracheostomy care safely.

The next technical session focused on “Canulization and administration of Intramuscular, Subcutaneous, and Intravenous Injections”. The session was conducted by Mrs. Shikha Singh, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly. Participants were trained regarding selection of sites, preparation of equipment, aseptic precautions, insertion techniques, medication administration, prevention of complications and patient safety measures.

After completion of the morning sessions, participants proceeded for lunch break.

The post-lunch session was on “Care of Pressure Sore” conducted by Mr. Rihan Khan, Nursing Tutor, Keshlata College of Nursing, Bareilly. The session highlighted causes, stages, prevention, assessment, dressing techniques, positioning and nursing management of pressure sores. The facilitator emphasized the importance of pressure sore prevention in improving patient outcomes and quality nursing care.

Another practical and highly interactive session on “Lifting, Moving and Shifting (Body Mechanics)” was conducted by Mrs. Priyanka Kashyap and Ms. Kirti Solanki, Nursing Tutors, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly. Participants learned correct body mechanics, patient transfer techniques, positioning methods and injury prevention measures while handling patients. Demonstrations helped participants understand safe handling techniques for both patient and healthcare worker safety.

Following the tea break, a detailed session on “Recording and Reporting, including Doctor Order Sheet Interpretation, Treatment Charting, and Intake-Output Charting”, was conducted by Mrs. Poonam Azad, Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly. The facilitator explained the importance of accurate documentation, legal aspects of nursing records, interpretation of physician orders, medication charting and fluid balance monitoring. Practical examples and documentation exercises enhanced participants’ understanding regarding proper recording and reporting practices.

The final session of the day focused on “Bed Making” conducted by Ms. Anvita Stanley and Mrs. Roma Singh, PG Nursing Tutors, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly. Participants were trained regarding different types of bed making, principles of maintaining patient comfort, infection prevention and correct techniques for occupied and unoccupied bed preparation. Demonstrations enabled participants to practice proper bed making procedures efficiently.

Throughout the day, various teaching-learning methodologies such as demonstrations, case discussions, interactive lectures and question-answer sessions were utilized to ensure active learning and skill development among participants.

The second day of the workshop was highly informative, interactive and skill-oriented. Participants gained valuable practical exposure in nursing procedures, patient assessment, infection control practices, airway management, documentation and patient care techniques. The sessions significantly improved their confidence, technical competency and preparedness for handling clinical responsibilities effectively.

At the end of the sessions, feedback from participants was collected through feedback forms shared in the form of google form link. Participants appreciated the practical demonstrations, expert guidance and interactive teaching methods.

Day -3 Training Report (21/05/2026)

The third day of the Competency Based Hands-on Clinical Skills Training Workshop started with a brief recap of the previous day’s sessions. Facilitators reviewed the important concepts and procedures conducted on Day 2 and participants actively interacted during the discussion session. The recap session helped participants reinforce their understanding and clarify doubts related to various nursing procedures and patient care techniques.

The first session of the day was on “Neurological Examination” conducted by Dr. Nisha Assistant Professor Keshlata College of Nursing Bareilly. The session focused on assessment of cranial nerve examination reflex assessment motor and sensory evaluation coordination assessment and neurological documentation. The facilitator demonstrated systematic neurological examination techniques which enhanced their assessment skills and clinical confidence.

This was followed by a session on “PPH Management” conducted by Mrs. Karishma Goswami, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing Bareilly. The session emphasized identification prevention and emergency management of postpartum haemorrhage. Participants learned about assessment of maternal condition uterine massage administration of emergency medications fluid replacement and nursing interventions during obstetric emergencies. Demonstration and case discussions improved participants’ competency in managing maternal emergencies effectively.

After the tea break the next session on “Comfort Devices and Positioning” was conducted by Mrs. Jhelik Samantha, Assistant Professor, Keshlata College of Nursing Bareilly. Participants learned about various comfort devices their indications methods of positioning bedridden patient’s prevention of complications and maintenance of patient comfort and safety. Demonstrations helped participants understand proper positioning techniques and body alignment during patient care.

The following session on “Oxygen Administration” was conducted by Mrs. Akanksha Emmanuel, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing Bareilly. The facilitator explained indications, methods of oxygen delivery oxygen therapy, equipment precautions monitoring and nursing responsibilities during oxygen administration. Practical demonstrations improved participants’ understanding regarding safe oxygen therapy management.

The next technical session focused on “Drug and Fluid Volume Calculation” conducted by Mr. Himanshu Pal, Assistant Professor, Keshlata College of Nursing Bareilly. Participants were trained regarding dosage calculation fluid volume calculation medication safety and interpretation of physician orders. Practical exercises and problem-solving activities enhanced their mathematical accuracy and medication administration competency.

Following completion of the morning sessions participants proceeded for lunch break.

The post lunch session on “Suctioning” was conducted by Ms. Akansha Kumari PG Nursing Tutor, Keshlata College of Nursing, Bareilly. Participants learned indications preparation suctioning techniques infection prevention airway maintenance and post procedure care. Hands on demonstrations improved participants’ practical skills related to airway management.

Another important session on “Mechanical Ventilation Management” was conducted by Dr. Nitin Sahai, Assistant Professor, Keshlata College of Nursing, Bareilly. The facilitator explained principles of mechanical ventilation, ventilator settings, monitoring patient care prevention of complications and nursing responsibilities while managing mechanically ventilated patients. The session provided valuable knowledge regarding critical care nursing and emergency patient management.

After the tea break the session on “Newborn Resuscitation” was conducted by Mr. Abhay Singh, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly. Participants learned neonatal assessment airway management, resuscitation techniques and emergency interventions required during neonatal emergencies. Demonstrations using simulation models enabled participants to understand newborn resuscitation procedures effectively.

The final session of the day focused on “Haemoglobin Estimation” conducted by Mr. Tarun Dhyani, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly. The facilitator explained methods of haemoglobin assessment, specimen handling, interpretation of results and nursing responsibilities during laboratory investigations.

Throughout the day various teaching learning methodologies including simulation-based demonstrations, interactive discussions and case- based learning activities were utilized to promote active participation and skill enhancement among participants.

At the end of the day feedback was collected from participants through Google Form links. Participants expressed that the workshop significantly enhanced their clinical competency confidence and professional knowledge related to specialized nursing procedures and patient care management.

Day – 4 Training agenda (22/05/2026)

The fourth and final day of the Competency Based Hands-on Clinical Skills Training Workshop commenced with a recap of the previous day’s sessions. Facilitators reviewed the important procedures and concepts covered on Day 3 and participants actively participated in the interactive discussion session. The recap session helped reinforce clinical knowledge and strengthen understanding related to specialized nursing procedures and emergency management.

The first session of the day was on “Bandaging” conducted by Mr. Dinesh Singh Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly, Ms. Pratibha Charan, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly, Mrs. Bhawna, PG Nursing Tutor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly and Ms. Yengkhom Sonia Devi, Nursing Tutor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing, Bareilly. The facilitators demonstrated various types of bandaging techniques, principles of bandage application, fracture support, wound care and patient safety measures. Participants actively engaged demonstrations and practiced different methods of bandaging for various clinical conditions.

This was followed by a session on “Biomedical Waste Management” conducted by Mrs. Simmi Singh, Nursing Tutor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing Bareilly. The session focused on segregation of biomedical waste colour, coding infection prevention, waste disposal methods legal guidelines and environmental safety measures. Participants learned the importance of proper biomedical waste management in preventing hospital acquired infections and maintaining patient and community safety.

After the tea break the next session on “Chest Physiotherapy and Postural Drainage” was conducted by Ms. Anukriti Paul, PG Nursing Tutor, Keshlata College of Nursing, Bareilly. Participants learned various chest physiotherapy techniques, breathing exercises, postural drainage methods, indications, contraindications and nursing responsibilities during respiratory care procedures. Demonstrations improved participants’ understanding regarding respiratory patient management.

The following session on “Emergency Drug Trolley” was conducted by Mrs. Anjali Bhan, Assistant Professor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing Bareilly. The facilitator explained the arrangement, maintenance emergency medications, equipment, preparation and nursing responsibilities related to emergency crash cart management. Participants gained practical knowledge regarding preparation and handling of emergency drug trolleys during critical situations.

Another important technical session on “Sampling” was conducted by Mr. Vaibhav Singh PG Nursing Tutor, Rohilkhand College of Nursing Bareilly. The session emphasized proper specimen collection techniques, labelling transportation, infection prevention and maintenance of specimen integrity. Participants actively participated in demonstration related to safe sampling procedures.

Following completion of the morning sessions participants proceeded for lunch break.

After lunch, feedback of Day 4 was collected through Google Form links. Participants shared positive feedback regarding the overall organization, practical exposure, expert guidance and learning experiences provided throughout the workshop.

A post test was conducted to evaluate participants’ knowledge and competency gained during the four- day training program. The assessment helped measure improvement in clinical understanding practical skills and professional competency among participants.

The workshop concluded with the valedictory function attended by Dignitaries, Principals Faculty members, organizing committee members and Participants. Certificates were distributed to participants and facilitators in recognition of their active participation and contribution to the workshop.

The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks expressing sincere gratitude to the Management, Facilitators, Pre- Sessional Approval Committee members, Principals, Faculty members, technical support team and all participants for their valuable support cooperation and contribution in making the Competency Based Hands-on Clinical Skills Training Workshop a grand success.

Overall, the fourth day successfully concluded the workshop by reinforcing competency based clinical learning professional development and commitment towards quality patient care.
